Cities: Skylines DLC
Cities : Skylines is the best city-building game on the market at the moment, and while the establish game alone is reasonably solid, there ’ south besides been a handful of expansion packs which have added to the game and made it more enjoyable.
With eight different expansion packs released to date, it might be hard to figure out which are essential to your city, and which ones you can skip. Since I own them all and have spent 100+ hours playing them, I ’ ve ranked them all for you from worst to best ! Please bill this article is based on the Mac/PC version of the plot. not all of the under expansion packs have made it to the console table versions of Cities : Skylines so far .
8. “Snowfall” (February 2016)
“ Cities : Skylines Snowfall ” is deplorably the worst expansion pack released frankincense far. All images are courtesy of Colassal Order and Paradox Interactive snow was the second gear expansion pack released for Cities : Skylines and was a major missed opportunity, in my impression. As its claim suggests, the pack adds snow to the game, but alone to a few pre-selected maps. alternatively of a fully-fleshed out seasonal worker bicycle, there are only three snow-clad maps which are constantly covered with snow and are affected by cold temperatures. I and other fans were hoping that the clique would allow for all maps to feature to weather, or at least the new maps to cycle through seasons, but precisely having perma-snow worlds is superintendent disappointing and very limits gameplay. With the snow maps, there are new issues like dealing with heating, and ordering enough snow ploughs for the roads, but there ‘s besides new Christmas-themed décor. The pack besides adds trams ( which is queerly placed in the pack considering there is the Mass Transit gang released by and by ), therefore if you truly want trams, a map to have snow on forever, or equitable love Christmas, I guess this is a clique for you .
7. “Parklife” (May 2018)
The “ Parklife ” expansion pack is n’t bad, but it just is n’t a collision in my book. Parklife adds the ability to create more in-depth parks in your city, from nature reserves, to zoos and amusement parks. These things were decidedly asked for a distribute amongst the fandom, so it ’ south great to finally add them into the city, but I find the level of micro-managing needed to build ballpark way excessively much. Unlike early things in the game, you can not simply plop down an entertainment ballpark and open it up, rather, you have to drop down each part of it ; the pathway leading inside, the restaurants, the toilets, the Ferris wheel, etc. The tied of customisation is nice, but it besides feels besides heavy-handed for a game that ‘s about the bigger word picture. There ’ second no option to plop down pre-designed amusement parks, menagerie, gardens, etc. which I would ’ ve preferred for those of us who don ’ thymine want to plan each detail. If I wanted to build an entertainment park from scratch, I ’ five hundred free rein Rollercoaster Tycoon, Planet Coaster, or Parkitect. Though the Parklife expansion backpack comes second to last on the list, I want to say that it ’ s by no means a bad expansion pack. I good find the level of micro-managing needed to build and maintain the parks besides time-consuming when you ’ ve still got the rest of the city to manage, and I rarely find myself even using this pack .
6. “Concerts” (August 2017)
Host your own version of Coachella with the “ Concerts ” expansion clique. The Concerts DLC is listed as a “ mini-expansion ”, as it actually only focuses on one gameplay accession : the ability to add venues for concerts and music festivals to your city. You can run EDM, Rock, Pop or Folk concerts and festivals and decide on ticket prices, marketing campaigns, security and more. There ’ mho besides a new media air build, which allows you to promote concerts in your town. Though it ’ s a belittled pack, I in truth enjoy this one. I ’ m a big music lover, and constantly wanted concert venues in-game, so I love it for that argue, but I besides find it fun setting up festivals, watching Cims push about to watch the shows, and they ’ re besides fairly dependable money makers if you know how to promote them and hire the right musicians. At one point, my city was making the majority of its income from festivals and tourists alone .
5. “Natural Disasters” (November 2016)
Want to destroy your town with a killer crack ? “ natural Disasters ” is the pack for you ! I remember when Cities : Skylines was beginning released ; one of the major complaints from players was that there were no natural disasters, or ways to destroy the town. Anyone who came to the game from playing the old SimCity franchise is all besides conversant with causing an earthquake or crack equitable to wreck their own perfectly planned township, so it seemed odd that C : S didn ’ thymine have the same options. The Natural Disasters pack does give you the ability to turn on ( or off ) natural disasters in-game, allowing for random disasters to occur ; earthquakes, tsunami, forest fires, tornadoes, thunderstorms and more. You can plan your city to handle them with warning systems and emergency routes, and tied build shelters. I don ’ t necessarily think this clique is bad, but it ’ s not a must-have for me. As person who spends HOURS meticulously planning ( and re-planning ) each of my cities, the final thing I ’ five hundred want is for my hard cultivate to be washed aside by a tsunami, so I always play with the disasters off. But if you ’ re looking for a challenge, this backpack is a great addition to the game .
4. “Green Cities” (October 2017)
Go green with Cities : “ Skylines green Cities ” ! The park Cities expansion pack adds 350 new assets to the game, which allow players to build an eco-friendly city with organic shops, electric vehicles, recycling plants, eco-friendly buses, and more. Anyone who ’ s play Cities : Skylines will be familiar with the expect of the brown, contaminated water or a huge drivel landfill on their city, so it ’ randomness decent to have more green and eco-friendly options, which lead to a more beautiful township.
I truly enjoy this pack ; the new services for renewable energy world power plants, floating garbage collector and water treatment plant keep my city looking beautiful and greens. As person who cares about the environment in real number biography, it ’ s courteous to look after it in my game equally well. I besides actually enjoy the new IT Cluster Office specialization, as the skyscrapers look amaze in-game, particularly at nox .
3. “Mass Transit” (May 2017)
Better planning for roads, extra public transportation options and more with the “ Mass Transit ” expansion pack ! Dealing with traffic is credibly the most challenging share of playing Cities : Skylines, and you learn reasonably soon that having effective populace transport ( fair like in real life cities ) is quite authoritative. The Mass Transit expansion pack gives you more options for exile in your city ; you can now add ferries, blimps, cable television cars and monorails, and besides build batch theodolite hub for Cims to transfer between fare. There ’ mho besides little quality of life changes, like being able to name your person streets and change the rules of the roads ( both of which were available with mods, anterior to the pack being released ). This pack is a pretty great one and a must-have for any sprawl city. More public transportation leads to less traffic congestion on your roads, more income, and happier citizens. I always enjoying planning bus and caravan lines, and it ’ s great having the hub for Cims to transfer between lines at. Building effective public enchant systems are easier to do now, but calm challenging to overlord, then buy this pack and practice away !
2. “Industries” (October 2018)
Spend more time with your industrial sector with the “ Industries ” expansion pack ! Industries is the expansion pack I didn ’ deoxythymidine monophosphate know I needed until I bought it ! The expansion carry adds the ability to amply customise the industrial areas in the crippled : farming, forest, ore and oil. The expansion allows you to plan the supply chain from beginning to finish, from harvesting to process, memory and production, then supplying your products to your commercial zones or exporting them to other cities. There are besides five fresh maps, policies and city services ( ultimately the postal service ! ). I truly enjoy playing with this gang. It takes some of the ideas from Park Life angstrom army for the liberation of rwanda as micromanaging one expression of the gameplay, but I don ’ triiodothyronine find it as gawky hera ; I can simply use the brush and nominate the estate I want to use for grow, for model, and then plop down where I want to have my farms, my production to be, etc. and watch it operate. The industries all make significantly more money for your city if you plan them right and optimise them so you ’ ra exporting enough goods to nearby cities. This pack adds on a lot of hours of gameplay, and you can very get into planning your industrial sector unlike ever before !
1. “After Dark” (September 2015)
Bring the night liveliness to your city with the “ After Dark ” expansion pack ! After Dark was the first expansion battalion released for the bet on and it ’ second calm my darling. The expansion added on the ability to have a day and night cycle ( believe it or not, prior to this, your city was merely shrouded in day ! ), which besides has an effect on the traffic, in summation to the ocular changes. The battalion besides adds on the tourist and leisure specializations, which give you the ability to create marinas, beach attractions, hotels, clubs, bars, and more. Of course, tourism and leisure increase your income, so I very enjoy building up my tourist area of town ( glorious with a “ loss sparkle ” district, clubs, and hotels, all justly next to my international airport and music festival area ). The compact besides adds some minor quality of liveliness features : patrol buildings, cab service, cargo terminals for the harbor, the ability to add a “ biking only ” policy to individual districts, the aforesaid external airport and a busbar terminal. I feel like this pack fleshed out the plot the most ; obviously, the day/night cycle was a big improvement ( and the graphics are truly stunning at night ), but the ability to add in the leisure/tourist districts and focus on bringing more income to the city is besides crucial and actually improves gameplay. Some fans do gripe that all of this should ’ ve been included in the basal bet on, and possibly it should ’ ve, but the fact is you won ’ thymine want to play Cities : Skylines without owning at least this expansion battalion .
