There are many uses for wood. You can make a craft table, make your first set of tools, make charcoal with it, and build your first base with it .
If you want to progress in minecraft at all you need wood. flush if you have hundreds of diamonds if you want to make tools you need wood. wood can make charcoal which is a good fuel provision and woodwind is already a fuel. Bottem line if you want to get anywhere in minecraft you need forest period !
